- Verified regulatory application
A HEPA-labeled filter placed into a leaking ordinary vacuum does not automatically create a HEPA dust-control system.
OSHA discourages non-HEPA vacuuming for respirable silica because fine particles can pass through or be discharged from the exhaust.
Use a purpose-rated dust extractor for regulated lead, silica, asbestos, mold remediation, or other hazardous material.
Never collect flammable or hot material

A low purchase price is less compelling when the required replacement filter is unavailable after one construction project.
Cord, hose, and electrical load
Add cord and hose length to estimate working reach.

- GFCI needs for wet areas
- Cord storage
- Hose storage
Do not use a wet/dry vacuum while standing in water or handling the plug with wet hands.
Noise
Shop vacuums can be loud.

- Insulated motor housing
Use hearing protection where the actual sound level and duration require it.
A vacuum intended for occasional garage cleanup does not need to recreate the acoustic environment beneath an airport runway.

Choose wet-pickup controls and a filtration system appropriate to the real material. Peak horsepower is the least useful number once the tank contains water, the filter contains dust, and the hose contains an object that should have been picked up by hand.
