Why Does My Monitor Say No Signal? Test the Display Chain in Order
A no-signal message means the monitor has enough power to display its own status but is not receiving usable video. Select the correct input, reconnect both ends of the cable, use the correct graphics port, bypass docks and adapters, cross-test the monitor and computer, and then inspect resolution, refresh rate, and drivers.

Separate no power from no signal
The monitor likely has no power when its indicator is off, its menu will not appear, and it shows no manufacturer logo with a known-working outlet and power cable.
It has power but lacks video when its menu appears, it displays “No Signal” or “No Input,” or it enters standby after searching for a source.
A monitor that displays its own menu has confirmed that some panel electronics and backlighting work. It has not proven that every input is functional.
Select the correct input
Open the monitor’s source menu and choose the port actually connected, such as HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, DVI, or VGA.
Disable automatic input selection temporarily when the monitor keeps choosing another source.

Reconnect both ends
Turn the monitor and computer off. Disconnect the video cable at both ends, inspect for bent pins or damage, reconnect each end fully, tighten connector screws where present, then power the monitor and computer again.
Some DisplayPort connectors have a locking tab. Release it rather than yanking the plug out and converting a cable problem into a soldering problem.
Use the correct computer port
Desktop computers may expose video connectors in two places: motherboard ports near USB and network connectors, and a separate graphics card lower in the case.
When a discrete graphics card is installed, the monitor normally connects to that card. Some processors lack integrated graphics, so the motherboard ports remain inactive even though they physically exist.

Temporarily remove USB-C or Thunderbolt docks, HDMI switches, KVM switches, USB display adapters, signal converters, AV receivers, and wall plates.

On Windows, open Display settings, select Detect where available, use Windows plus P to choose Duplicate or Extend, and restart with the monitor connected.

Reduce display demands
A monitor may reject a mode that exceeds the screen, cable, adapter, dock, or port.
Set the affected monitor to its recommended resolution, choose a standard refresh rate such as 60 Hz for diagnosis, disable HDR temporarily, disconnect extra monitors, and reconnect the affected display.
Restore higher refresh rates, HDR, and multi-monitor arrangements one at a time after the picture is stable.
Update official software
Use official sources for graphics drivers, dock firmware, computer BIOS or system firmware, monitor firmware where available, and operating-system updates.
Avoid generic driver-updater programs. Those excel mainly at transforming one known problem into several more mysterious ones.
When hardware is likely
Service or replacement becomes more likely when the monitor fails with several computers and cables, one input never works, the computer produces no video on any screen, the graphics adapter disappears from the operating system, a connector is loose, or the image shows persistent lines and corruption.
Stop using equipment with burning odor, arcing, severe heat, swollen components, or visibly damaged connectors.
