Why Is My Shower Water Pressure Low?

Compare fixtures before disassembly
Test the affected shower on cold, the same shower on hot, a nearby sink on cold and hot, another shower or faucet, and an exterior hose connection when safe and available.

Measure flow without calling it pressure
A container-and-timer test measures flow rate: Q = 60V / t, where Q is gallons per minute, V is collected gallons, and t is collection time in seconds.
If half a gallon collects in 20 seconds, the flow rate is 1.5 gallons per minute.
This does not measure static or dynamic pressure in pounds per square inch. It simply gives a repeatable flow comparison. Keep the floor dry and avoid handling containers in dangerously hot water.
Clean the showerhead correctly
Mineral scale and debris can restrict the spray openings or inlet screen.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. A typical removable head can be unscrewed after protecting the finish, checked for loose debris at the inlet, cleaned using only approved methods, rinsed, and reinstalled with the specified washer or seal.
Do not force parts, enlarge spray holes, or soak finishes in a chemical that the manufacturer has not approved.

Check the hose, diverter, and controls

Do not remove the flow restrictor
Removing or drilling a designed flow-control component can violate local efficiency requirements, damage the fixture, produce an unpleasant spray, increase hot-water use, conceal the actual obstruction, or void warranty coverage.
Clean and diagnose the fixture rather than converting it into an unregulated lawn sprinkler aimed at your face.
